Note: Today’s Biology class will be focused on the Art 30 component of this unit plan

 

Guiding Question(s):

  •  How is the Scientific Method and the production and criticism of Art similar?

 

Overview of the Lesson:

  • Art critique

  • Mini lesson: Scientific method/Design process (AB Competencies - Critical Thinking)

  • Mini lesson: Set expectations for the critique as analysis for art. In groups of five, students will critique each other's work by analyzing, providing constructive feedback and areas of strength (UDL principles 8.3, 8.4)

  • (DRAWINGS-Communicate A.B, Articulate and Evaluate B.C. p. 5) (COMPOSITIONS - Components A.B.C., Relationships 1 A., Relationships 2 B. p. 5-6) (ENCOUNTERS - Impact of Images A.B. p.6)

    • What was the question?

    • What research did the student do?

    • What was their hypothesis - their educated guess?

    • How did the student experiment and what they observe?

 

ART 30

Guiding Question(s):

  • How do critiques help artists grow in their skill, ability and conceptual understanding of art?

  • How do ideas translate in visual form and how do others receive it?

 

Overview of the Lesson:

  • Continuation of critique if time needed

    • Period of reflection if students need to consider the critiques and strengths that were highlighted and analyzed by peers. Students may choose how they will apply feedback, if any, to their project.

    • Highlight that the scientific method, design process and art-making are a loop and to not be discouraged when things do not turn out as planned. (AB Competencies - Managing Information, Creativity and Innovation)
